Our Story

In 2014, Pure Country Farms became the first meat grower in the United States to become NON-GMO verified for their pigs and has also now verified their beef. Non-GMO Verified Products are raised and fed a diet in compliance with the Non-GMO Project Standard for Avoidance of Genetically Engineered Ingredients.  All animal diets consist of NON-GMO grains, wheat, barley, triticale, peas, flax and our cattle do get a small amount of NON-GMO Corn which we raise ourselves..

Our certification information is available on the FoodChain ID, www.foodchainid.com.

From birth to harvest, Pure Country Farms LLC in Ephrata, WA, strives to raise the most economical, highest-quality, free-range pork and beef. Our herds are never given anti-biotics, no added hormones or animal by-products. If an animal requires treatment, it is then removed from the program, treated and sold as a regular commercial animal. In addition, we are committed to sustainability of the environment, the community, and individuals.

Pure Country Farms came to fruition when Paul Sr as a young man decided to become a pig farmer.  He grew up in the greater Columbia Basin, where his 3rd generation farming family established a crop and orchard farm homestead on the outskirts of Othello, WA. He was the youngest of seven children and participated in both 4-H and FFA. With the guidance from his dad and through his involvement in 4-H, Paul raised chickens, sheep, cattle, and pigs. Once in FFA, Paul began to thrive as a farmer, where he expanded to a 15- sow operation and held many leadership positions. He genuinely enjoyed learning how to be a farmer, how to judge livestock and how to show.

These experiences helped to shape Paul's destiny as a well-respected hog farmer and community member. His 4-H and FFA hobby farm quickly turned into a career.

In 1980 he started a family, marrying his high school sweetheart, Karrie. Together, they have four children, all of whom participated in 4-H and FFA.

Paul Sr. has been in the industry for over 47 years. His son, Paul Jr, has been right by his side from a very young age and his business partner. Together the two of them have made Pure Country Farms into what it is today, and in 2000, they committed to dedications their farming practices of becoming a leader in the free-range, Non-GMO, never administered anti-biotics in the hog and beef farming industry.

The farm resides on 160 acres where they raise pigs, cattle and rotate crops. Our team on the farm work hard to ensure the farm meets all federal farming standards, including the uses of agronomy practices where the straw used in the hoop shelters where the pig reside, is composted and then spread on the surrounding farmland.

From birth to harvest, Pure Country Farms strives to raise the most economical, highest quality, free-range pork and beef as possible.

In 2015, some exciting things took place. Paul Jr. expanded Pure Country Farms to include beef and the Klingeman Family purchased a small family butcher shop which has now become our hub for offering what we call "Full Circle FARM TO FORK". Our USDA butcher shop- Pure Country Harvest, includes a team of individuals who are dedicated to provided high quality meat cuts, specializing in supplying the local community with custom cut and wrap of our family farms beef and pork along with offering individual retail ready cuts of meat to customers who want to just buy a few packages. Our team works hard at supplying restaurants and stores with Pure Country products.

Shortly after the USDA butcher shop purchase, Paul Jr added to our herd. He started our cattle expansion with Simmentals and Angus Beef that quickly expanded in to SimAngus Cross. After a lot of careful research, Paul Jr. chose these two well known cattle breeds to raise because the strengths and weaknesses of both breeds compliment each other to make the "perfect blend of genetics". This also compliments our whole carcass 14-21 day dry-age process very well, by dry-aging the carcass it slowly breaks down the connective tissues of an already tender beast, shedding water weight, and intensely concentrating flavor across all cuts which results in a richly marbled animal whose fat is pronounced but balanced.

Our cattle are raised on pastures and range lands across the Northwest for 12-16 months; when they reached the desired weight, they are taken to the Klingeman family farm- Pure Country Farms- for finishing and then when ready for harvest, the animals make a short trip to Pure Country Harvest, just 15 miles away. We take care in providing the animals with as little stress as possible by offering small batch transportation with ample room at the harvest to move about and have access to food and water.
